Sawyer M. Shepard re-joined Mark D. Kelly Criminal Defense in May 2022 as a Paralegal / Law Clerk (he previously worked for our office as a legal intern in 2020). Sawyer graduated Summa Cum Laude in Philosophy and Economics from Lake Forest College in 2021. After graduating from Lake Forest,
Sawyer worked for a corporate law firm in Chicago, Illinois, gaining valuable experience in tax, real estate and business law. Sawyer began law school in the Fall of 2023 and looks forward to pursuing a career in criminal defense. In his free time, Sawyer enjoys hockey, traveling, and spending time with his two dogs.

Jonah joined the firm in October 2023 after graduating from the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities in 2023 with degrees in Finance and Economics. Jonah’s previous work experience includes an internship at an immigration law firm in Minneapolis, where he worked processing H1-B and Green Card applications, and in an economic consulting position in a major consulting firm. Jonah is also the President of People for PSEO, a Minnesota based education nonprofit which advocates for better dual enrollment education solutions. Ultimately, Jonah is passionate about using the law and public policy to improve socioeconomic equity.

Jessica Marie joined Mark D. Kelly Criminal Defense in October 2021 as a Legal Assistant. Jessica has a Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice, and an Associate’s Degree in Paralegal Studies and Human Services. Jessica’s previous work experience includes working for several years as an Advocate for Victims in the Criminal Justice System, as well as an internship at the Ramsey County Attorney’s Office in 2017. Jessica is also a Volunteer on the Public Safety Board in her community. With her diverse education and experience, Jessica brings with her a unique perspective and knowledge of the criminal justice system and its laws, practices and procedures.
