Background: JAB was charged with carrying a pistol without a permit and presenting a prohibited item at a security screening area. The incident occurred on June 3, 2020, at the North Checkpoint of Terminal 1 in the jurisdiction of the Metropolitan Airports Commission, Hennepin County, Minnesota. Officers responded to a report of a weapon in the scanner and identified JAB as the owner of the bag containing a pistol with ammunition.

Legal Proceedings: JAB was initially charged with Carry/Possess Pistol without a Permit in a Public Place, a gross misdemeanor, and Presenting a Prohibited Item at a Security Screening Area, a misdemeanor. During the legal proceedings, JAB admitted to owning the firearm and acknowledged that his permit to carry had expired.

Outcome: On December 29, 2020, JAB was convicted of Disorderly Conduct under Minnesota Statute 609.72.1(3), while the other charges were dismissed. JAB was sentenced to one year of probation, which he successfully completed on December 29, 2021.  A notice for automatic expungement of JAB’s record was issued for June 25, 2025.
